Story
Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK, with around 300 people diagnosed every day. It not only steals your sight, it takes away your ability to do the things you love. That's why I'm keen to share awareness among my fellow photographers.
Imagine your camera sensor had a permanent smudge in its centre...
That's what macular disease does in the eye. The centre of a person's vision is lost when the disease progresses. And although it is more common in older eyes, it can affect anyone at any age. So please, help me spread the word by sharing this page.
My challenge...
I belong to Overton Photographic Club in Hampshire (https://overtonphoto.club) and our season has just ended. In the summer break, I am taking on a mission to spread awareness of macular disease among the UKs photographic community.
By taking part in the Macular Society's Step Around the World (...from home) challenge, I have committed to completing 287,232 steps (136 miles/219 km), which will take me on a virtual route from our club room in Hampshire, via the Macular Society Head Office, to the Fox Talbot Museum of photography, then on to the Royal Photographic Society in Bristol and back to the club room in time for the new season on September 9th.
