My mom, Patti Goldsmith, passed away after an incredibly brave battle with lung cancer in February 2014. I can't express how thankful I am for our practical, emotional, and social support systems throughout her illness. This support helped her maintain a joyful attitude and helped carry me, my sister, and my dad through a difficult time.

I am participating in a 15-mile overnight culture crawl through London to raise money for UK cancer care Maggie's Centres.

I work at a design and architecture studio called Heatherwick Studio. We are designing a new Maggie's Centre in Yorkshire, UK. This has provided an opportunity for me to not only raise money for this new cancer care center, but to honor my beautiful mom's memory. 

I'm doing this walk in memory of my mom and to honor her bravery. I'm raising money to help provide support that helps others maintain the joy of living through cancer.
