Story
Hello! I'm Mandy, 43 years old, a married working mum of two boys. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2016 and underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Diagnosis at the age of 38 and treatment with two very active little boys was hell, I felt scared and pretty helpless.....but with the support of my superhero husband, friends, family and drs/nurses who looked after me I'm still here!
I feel like the bionic woman on occasions, a little detached from my new boob, but 5 years on from chemo I'm trying to get back to my pre-cancer levels of fitness and would quite like to stop being scared and prove to myself that my amazing body (new boob and all) could smash a 5 day 100km trek across the Sahara Desert in Morocco and become something of a superhero too.
I lost my dear friend Tina to breast cancer in August 2019, she was a superhero and more, she ran 100 marathons before she was 50 and her 101st (the accidental marathon) she ran not long after having finished treatment following her initial diagnosis. I'll never be a runner but walking is my thing and so I'm doing this trek for us both!
To have been given the opportunity to raise money for such an important charity and to do so in Tina’s honour is a massive thing for me, so whatever you feel able to give in support would be hugely appreciated! Thank you!
