Flying High for AgeUK · 19 February 2019
For a short period of time I helped in a nursing home. There I met a lady called Babs. She was in her 90’s and couldn’’t really move or look after herself, but oh how she could laugh. Her spirit and ‘can do’ attitude has stayed with me, and to a certain extent I try and emulate the person she became. I try to make people smile. She would talk about things that happened years ago, and we would giggle for hours together. Her mop of flaming red hair which she insisted was dyed, long after she was capable of doing it herself, used to bob about when she got animated.
To know that a persons life can be enriched beyond comprehension just by contact, a voice and shared memories, is inspiring. She inspired me. Lizzie T, you know who I mean. Age UK can help to do just that, but we can’t do it alone, we need your support.
Help us to provide funds to help keep these services fully manned, staffed, and available.
Most people will feel lonely at some point in their lives. It’s a deeply personal experience that - in most cases - will thankfully pass. Sadly, 3.9 million older people say the TV is their main source of company and 1 million will spend Christmas alone. Donating to this page will help Age UK to continue providing vital services that offer companionship, advice and support for millions of older people facing later life alone.
100% of the money donated from this page will go directly to Age UK. I am paying for the jump myself. And I shall have my hair done so I look my best for the “plummet” photos. 😄
