Story
Hi! My name is Alysa Mellars; friends and family call me Aly. I love reading, art, music and animals!
I had my first seizure on April 16, 2016...a day that changed my life forever. When I fell to the ground at school one day and started convulsing, my teacher knew it was different from my previous panic attacks. I was taken to the hospital for observation and the next couple of weeks were a blur. At one point I had eleven 15 minute long seizures in one day. My longest seizure, to date, was an hour long.
After many years and many doctors, I have been diagnosed with Psychogenic Non-epileptic seizures, Anxiety Disorder, Depression, PTSD and most recently Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. At this point, I have seizures once a week and deal with chronic fatigue and pain every day.
Getting a service dog is my dream. I first heard of Little Angels Service Dogs when I was 14 or 15 and it gave me hope for the future. If it weren't for the hope that having a service dog gives me, I wouldn't be here today. A service dog can perform tasks that will help me be able to manage meaningful employment, to be able to go places alone, and generally to be a more independent and confident adult. I NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE MY DREAM COME TRUE! Thank you from the bottom of my heart 💟 for your donations of any amount. Service dogs are very expensive and every little bit will help! All donations will go directly to Little Angels Service Dogs.
(If you would like to send a check directly to LASD instead of donating with the Just Giving link, it is important to write the solicitation code PM-ME-AL in the memo area of the check. If you would like to donate directly on the LASD website, please select the Recipient Fund option and enter PM-ME-AL in the “In Honor Of" box.)
