Gondar is a city with a population similar to that of Leicester. It is home to the University of Gondar Hospital and Medical school, the oldest in Ethiopia. It provides medical care for a population of approximately 7,000,000 people spread over a remote rural area approximately 150 miles in diameter. Currently the only trauma care is provided by General Surgical Residents supervised by a single Orthopaedic Consultant. There is no dedicated Orthopaedic Trauma Theatre.

Many of you will know of the Leicester Gondar Orthopaedic Partnership. We have raised $200k USD to ship orthopaedic equipment, for what will be the only orthopaedic facility for the area covered by the University of Gondar Hospital

We have already purchased $200k worth of equipment and through Medical Aid International this is currently being shipped. We hope for an installation by Dec 2018 and a clinical visit by UK medics in early 2019 to continue our commitment to improve teaching, training and standards of care.
