Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I've set this page up to fundraise for Bowel Cancer UK, in memory of my girlfriend Toni's uncle Buster, who sadly passed away after a fight with the disease at the age of 57. Although I never met Buster myself, I know he was a much-loved character and will be sorely missed amongst his family and friends. Hopefully by completing the marathon in honour of his life and raising money for the charity - this will help the goal to better understand bowel cancer and diagnose it earlier.
Nearly 16,000 men and women die of bowel cancer every year in the UK and bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK, behind lung cancer. Early diagnosis of bowel cancer in the UK is a problem because people either find it uncomfortable to discuss the symptoms of the disease or simply do not know what they are. Survival rates in the UK are amongst the lowest in Europe, with 15% more patients being diagnosed at a later stage of the disease compared with most other European countries. This is why Bowel Cancer UK's work - to encourage people to recognise the symptoms of the disease and to act on their concerns so that they have the best chance of survival - is so important
