As a Cycling Club we have decided to participate in a fund raising event on behalf of The Alice Charity. So who are they? They are a local charity serving Newcastle and Stoke on Trent. In their own words...“Supporting local families living in poverty across Stoke-on-Trent & Newcastle-Under-LymeAlice Charity offers a helping hand when times get tough to families living in your community. It’s a cuppa and a chat when life seems to be out of control. It’s food in the fridge, a danger-free home, debt advice, new parent support, a good night’s sleep and a great day at school. It’s knowing that if we improve the lives of those we support, we improve our whole community.”More info here https://alicecharity.com/So what’s happening? To coincide with this years Tour de France they have launched Tour de Alice. Their aim is to encourage people to get out on their bikes during the period of the TdF and to ride upto 2156 miles, which is the distance of this years race and of course raise some much needed money for the charity in the process.Alsager Harlequins have accepted the challenge and as a Club we’ve set ourselves two targets.1. To ride double the distance of this years race. A mere 4,312 miles2. For all you hill lovers (and haters), to climb at least the same elevation that the professional riders will be doing this time. That’s only 137,979ft.Note : these are the collective totals of all Club members, not individuals 😜What can you do to help?Simply, from Saturday and until the last day of the TdF, commit yourselves to getting out on your bike as often as possible. Even set yourselves a target if you’re feeling bold. All the miles (and feet) you do will be recorded in our AHCC Strava group, so make sure you join. You can do that here.https://www.strava.com/clubs/553959/membersAfter that, because it’s all about fund raising for the charity, try to raise as much as you can from friends and family in the form of sponsorship. Further information on how to do that will follow.Because things are a bit tight for people at the moment we’ve set ourselves a modest target to try to raise £500 as a Club. If we could do that, or even beat it, that would be fantastic. We’ll follow this up with more information over the coming days as the count down to the Grande Departe approaches. We’re hoping to organise a photo opportunity on Saturday to coincide with the official start of the race, followed by a short spin to get us off to a flying start. So try to keep Saturday early afternoon free if you can.
