Thanks for visiting our fundraising page - here's an update following the completion of this year's Great North Run ...
Following an early rise (5.55am!!) we blearily made our way to the train station in Darlington and arrived in Newcastle Central somewhat after 7.30am. After a short stroll to the start area it started sinking in that we were actually going to be involved in this event! A couple of hours later we found ourselves in a queue waiting to cross the start line, and then suddenly we were running, finally part of this enormous event of 52000!
The first few miles came and went and we crossed the Tyne Bridge waving to any camera that we saw ;o) after a small change in strategy (we did have one, honestly!) we reverted to running a mile and walking a mile to the finish. The last three miles were quite hard, but we managed to draw on the last of our reserves and trotted across the finish line in what we think was a reasonably respectable time of 3hrs 15mins! And we are sure you would like to know our placings - Allister 35839th, Susie 35840th.........
We would like to say a HUGE thank-you to everyone who has made a donation to date and for those who haven't, please don't be put off by the fact the event is over, this page will stay live until January.
Here is the original reason for setting up this page ...
It started as a a throwaway comment from Susie two years ago. I agreed to do the Great North Run if she came skiing with me ... Susie hasn't been skiing yet I'm still running! We have gone from zero running skills to being able to manage a fair distance without collapsing. 13 miles is still a huge challenge but are determined to make the distance. As we couldn't make last year's run we have taken our deferred places for 2008.
As many of you know we missed last year's run due to the sad loss of Susie's mum. We have chosen to run for St Luke's Hospice as they provided support in the form of Macmillan and Marie Curie nurses during Jane's illness.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: St Luke's Hospice Plymouth gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
We will be very grateful for all of your donations whether small, medium or (hopefully) large, so please, please sponsor us now!
Thanks a million ... Susie and Allister
