Story
Hi, my name is Allison and I’m 15 years old. In the last year and a half, my life has completely changed. I was always very active and led an independent everyday teenage life (riding my bike to school, playing club and high school sports, and enjoying school) until I started randomly losing consciousness. I began having episodes that resembled seizures. These events happen multiple times a week, lasting several minutes. This, as you can imagine, not only impacted going to high school but also impacted my family.
I faced countless doctor appointments and tests along with being taken to the hospital via ambulance on multiple occasions; I completely lost my independence. I was eventually diagnosed with non-epileptic seizures and POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). With these conditions, I can lose consciousness at any moment causing me to be susceptible to falling and extremely injuring myself. However, I’m excited to share that after months of researching I’ve been accepted and approved to receive a service dog! Little Angels Service Dogs are dedicated to providing the highest quality dogs to assist in the daily lives of people with disabilities like me. Little Angels Service Dogs is an International (ADI) accredited organization and a 501(3)c organization which means they rely 100% on donations from people like you.
In my case, this highly specialized dog will be trained to perform several functions like alerting me when my blood pressure takes a dangerous drop and giving me enough warning so I can get in a safe position. If or when I pass out the dog will remain by my side and provide deep pressure (like a firm hug.) Hopefully, with a little angel service dog, I will get close to living an independent, normal teenage life and be ready for college and beyond.
Please consider donating to this wonderful organization to help people like me receive a dog that will change my life and others like me who want to live an independent life.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading this and if you feel moved to, please consider donating today.
