I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1980 after falling into a diabetic coma. Since that time massive improvements have been made in the treatment of my condition, but a cure is still a long way away. A person diagnosed with type 1 diabetes can currently expect to have their life reduced by approximately 10 years, so a cure is vital to people like me.
