Story
Update - Swimathon has been postponed due to Covid-19 so I switched to MySwimathon and did it on 19/3 in my gym pool. Not quite what I had planned but glad as I did as the pool and gym are closed now. Maybe I will try the event when they put out new dates.
I have considered doing the Swimathon a few times and am feeling in the need for a swimming challenge so I have signed up. I don't really like swimming in lanes with other people around so that is out of my comfort zone, I like my nice quiet hotel pool.
Having popped a couple of discs out in my back this summer, which have given me a numb foot and a dodgy ankle, my swimming took a bit of a hit. I have been slowing building back up and it is frustrating so I am hoping this will motivate me.
I am hoping I can push myself to do the full 5K which will be an achievement as I can't walk 5K.
I will let you know how my training is going!
Update - I tried out a swim at Ely (where I have booked to do it) and managed 3K so am feeling positive about managing 5K :)
----------- Below is the standard blurb -----------
On the 27th - 29th March, over 21,000 swimmers will be heading down to over 600 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners.
Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity is dedicated to saving lives through funding research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Cancer Research UK are the only charity fighting over 200 cancer types but don't receive any government funding for their work, so their progress is all thanks to the support of people like you.
Marie Curie provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in people’s homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most.
Together we can really make a difference. We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.
