Story
Since AHMM's selection through a RIBA competition to design the new Alder Centre earlier this year, the team has been working with the Alder Hey Children's Hospital NHS Trust in Liverpool, to make the best building possible for its future users - bereaved families who have lost a child. To enhance the building, the team wants to go the extra mile to ensure that the furnishings along with other contents and surrounding natural environment are also the best quality they can be for the families who have had their lives turned upside down. Whilst funds for the new building itself are in place, costs for these elements will have to be raised.
The Alder Centre Cycle Classic is a 360km charity ride from London to Liverpool over two days. The group of cyclists will leave from AHMM Architects in London on the morning of Thursday 5 July and be welcomed at the NHS Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool the following afternoon.
This challenging ride will raise much needed funds for the Alder Centre, a new building at Alder Hey that will provide counselling for bereaved parents and anyone affected by the death of a child. The building is designed by AHMM together with PT Projects, Elliott Wood, David Stillman Associates and BBUK.
It is a project that is close to all of our hearts - but has limited funding. Your help will ensure the building is fitted out to create a calm and tranquil place and also pay for planting to make a beautiful garden space for users of the Centre. AHMM staff, members of the project team and friends of the practice are taking part in the ride, and together we hope to raise enough money to achieve our goal.
