Story
On Sunday 10 June 2018, five members of the firm will be abseiling from the Forth Rail Bridge for the Meningitis Research Foundation. The Team – Kim McIntosh, Steven Blacklaws, Rhona Brown, Sean White and Sarah Nicol – are looking forward to taking part in the abseil for this worthy cause. The firm takes pride in looking after its clients and each other so when we heard about this opportunity to make a difference and also satisfy the needs of the adrenaline junkies at the same time, we jumped at the chance!
We are undertaking the Forth Rail Bridge Abseil to raise money on behalf of the Meningitis Research Foundation as one of our staff has a dear friend who contracted meningitis just over 2 years ago.
This is Linsay’s story:
“My name is Linsay Robertson and I contracted meningococcal septicaemia on the 5 May 2016 at the age of 43. It worked extremely quickly and within less than 12 hours of feeling ill I was rushed into A&E and placed into an induced coma. The rash did not appear until two hours later. My family, including my 15 year old son, were informed that I was in a critical condition and to prepare for the worst. When I woke 12 days later I noticed that my hands and feet were black and I couldn't feel or move them. The realisation of the extent of what had happened started to sink in. I was soon advised that amputations would be required. I lost my right hand, four fingers from my left hand and both my legs below the knee.
Just as I was beginning to try to come to terms with what I had just gone through, we discovered that I had suffered damage to my kidneys and I am currently waiting for a transplant. I also suffered loss of hearing in my left ear and irreparable damage to my adrenal gland. I decided to approach Meningitis Research Foundation to become a volunteer as they are striving to rid the world of Meningitis. They pledge to see fewer people contract meningitis and septicaemia, to see more people survive with a better quality of life and reduced disability. They also strive to have more engaged, informed and supported patients and communities.”
All donations are vital to this continuing work and we would be grateful for your support and if you are in the area on Sunday 10 June 2018, we would love to see you there!
