Story
The reason why we are to walk 62 miles in a day. Raising funds and awareness for breast cancer. Inspired by our beautiful friend Anke
Hi I am Cathie and I have been involved with Walk the Walk Breast Cancer charity since 1999 after I had a scare of my own. Once I became involved with fund raising for breast cancer I found that I have a few friends that had breast cancer and have been successful in their fight against it. This year I was shocked when another of my friends received the horrible diagnosis of breast cancer. I realised that you cannot be complacent and that the most important factor is awareness, catching cancer early is crucial to a full recovery and it will reduce the level of invasive treatments.
I want to make a difference for my friend and others in her situation but I have no skills that can help directly so I will do what I can …. Walk to raise awareness and funds to support those who can make a difference!
My daughter Christina has joined me on this challenge so between us we have committed to raise £1500.00. Our training has reached 30miles and we have a long way to go! Your support means so much to us! Thank you! Cathie Ballxx
Something ludicrous has happened. Christina and Cathie Ball will be completing the Thames Path Challenge on the 12th of September 2015.. All 62 miles of it!!!(100k) In our target time of 20 hours non-stop. That's just over two whole marathons all in one go!
Why are we doing this?!?!?!?!
Everybody will experience cancer in a personal way throughout their lives, weather it happens to yourself, a family member or a friend. It is a scary and intimidating prospect to face.
We want to undertake this mammoth challenge to show our support and help those facing such hard times. As a family personally affected by cancer we understand how hard it can be to find the fight to carry on. Unfortunately we have lost loved ones to this horrendous disease, most recently Cathie's Brother and Christina's Uncle and on hearing news of one of Cathie's good friend Anke being diagnosed with breast cancer, we thought it was time we showed cancer who was boss.
We know the struggle we will face will be no where near as hard as those who are fighting cancer, but we plan to share some of the struggle by facing something scary and intimidating ourselves, ultimately raising money to help research into causes, prevention and solutions.
So PLEASE spare us what you can!!! and also ... pray the English weather will be kind to us. :)
Thank you,
Christina and Cathie xxxx
Our Charity is Walk the Walk. We have both been involved with Walk the Walk since 1999 and strongly believe it is a worthwhile charity. They positively unite people in the fight against breast cancer.
