Story
We are a group of ageing, over weight, retired Rugby Players from Ipswich. Inspired by the MND Warriors Doddie Weir, Rob Burrow, Ed Slater and fund raising heroes like Kevin Sinfield; we have decided to pick up the baton, to give our best and raise some serious funds to assist in the ongoing fight to find a cure/better treatment for MND.
We have set ourselves the considerable challenge to cycle from Ipswich Rugby Club to Melrose Rugby Club in the Borders of Scotland. The journey is 400+ miles which we will complete with a team of 40 over 4 days with an aim of raising £400000 for the My Names Doddie Foundation & 4Ed Campaign. We will be stopping at 4 great rugby institutions on route: Leicester Tigers Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium, Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Stadium Headingley, Newcastle Falcons Kingston Park Stadium and Melrose Rugby Club. These clubs are closely associated with Doddie Weir, Rob Burrow and Ed Slater.
The journey starts now with just over 6 months to go. As a group of novice cyclists many of the team need to buy bikes and set about a rigorous training regime to condition the ass for many hours in an uncomfortable saddle. It will be a tale of great friendships making great memories to add to those of our past playing/drinking days. We will follow the My Names Doddie Foundations key pillar of 'Love, Fun and Hope' in all we do on this great challenge.
As an addition to the above, because a 400 mile bike ride is not enough of a challenge. One of our Team Tim Lloyd in also taking on the mammoth task of running the new Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon on the 14th May. A great effort by Tim that is worthy of plenty more donations.
