Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am swimming one mile in the sea around Burgh Island in Devon on Sunday 17th September

This is a huge personal undertaking for me and takes me very much into uncharted waters (literally) having not had a swimming lesson since I was 10.

Bantham beach is also notorious for it's rip currents so the swim, whilst supported, is not without its risks and finishing is not a given.

I started the year in training to raise money for another charity based in Nepal which is close to my heart, but unfortunately an injury to my back meant that I was unable to ride a bike or even walk without pain between February and June this year. The only thing that I was able to do was swim and this proved to be an extremely good form of rehabilitation and enabled me to get into a daily training routine.

When I started swimming back in early March this year, I needed to rest every two lengths of a 25m pool whilst doing front crawl and I was, and still am, humbled by the septuagenarians and octogenarians who seemed to gracefully go up and down the pool long after I had left.

In 6 days' time however, I am going to attempt to swim 1 mile in the sea around Burgh Island in Devon.

Some tenacity and much good advice from friends has seen my swimming improve and I would like to use the 7 months of back injury rehabilitation to raise money for a good cause and something that affects many men and one that is also not spoken about that much.

As I said at the beginning, this is a big undertaking for me and if you can sponsor me so much as £1, I would be very grateful.
