Story
The London Marathon 2009
Yes I here I go again and quite probably mad as a hatter! But in a moment of post 2008 marathon euphoria I decided to apply again and much to my surprise I found I was the recipient of a ballot place to run this year.
On the 26th April 2009 I shall yet again pound the streets of London, wearing out my knees and raising some funds for a well deserving charity. Of course the competitive streak in me (moi!!) would like to beat my previous time so I shall be going for it, but will not have the trusty support this year of my feisty female companions.
As I was given a ballot place this year, I have thought long and hard about which charity to run for and have decided upon Barnardos. I thought that I would move away from health and work with an organisation which has a social impact.
I have been very lucky and with the support of a good family through my childhood I was given every opportunity to develop and achieve what I wanted to do. I have a happy home life and job that I love (most of the time!). Of course not everyone is as fortunate and the Barnardo’s “Believe in children” motto means that they focus on helping young and older children to get the best start in life, or if things go a little awry they help to steer them back on course. They are involved in some pretty tough issues including domestic violence, drug abuse, poverty, homelessness and bereavement. It is important to note that all their hard work does pay off.
So many people were ultra generous last year and I know that I am asking yet again for donations. If you are able to spare a few pounds that would be wonderful, any donation no matter how small will be gratefully received.
I expect the run to be much harder this year as I do not have company to chat as I go so if anyone is interested in watching the Marathon at street level, let me know. The more support the better and I have canny ways of making sure I see you this time!!!! Also I would be happy to add you to the “Text Progress Report” managed by Simon on the day.
Thank you all, love
Alison
