Story
Christmas Day is traditionally a day for presents, food, relaxing, booze, fun, families, etc OR it's a day for jumping into freezing cold water and swimming across Weymouth harbour - hopefully without sucumbing to hypothermia en route - to raise money for the amazing people of Mind.
I am
really not a fan of the cold so I have been attempting to prepare
myself for this by swimming in Brockwell lido (photo above) over the past week or so: this
morning the water temperature was 10.8 degrees but come Christmas Day itself,
the average water temperature is a bracing 8 degrees, and has been as low as 5
degrees*. It’s going to be quite hard to bring myself to jump in, never mind
actually swim, so I would be hugely, massively grateful for any and all donations,
no matter how small. Even a few pounds would be utterly amazing. Very warm
thoughts on Christmas Day itself would also be very much appreciated.
*just
for context, triathlon regulations say wetsuits are mandatory for water
temperatures under 14 degrees and recommend winter swimming shouldn’t be
attempted at all under 11 degrees.
