Story
I generally do not approach individuals to ask for support with charity donations, because there is so much out there that we can personally feel aligned to and will voluntarily give to without being pressured. I do feel very strongly about this, however, and I am totally saddened by the effects of this wretched disease, wreaking havoc and bringing heartbreak to individuals and their families. I'm joining Cancer Research UK's Race for Life this year in memory of Jan Perkins, Chris Perkins, Alan Emberson and my own dear mum, all of whom over the last few years lost their courageous battle with cancer. At this present time we have just had to say farewell to Jan, a wonderful former colleague and teacher at The Dixie Grammar School and a lovely friend who will leave a huge gap in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Her positive response to adversity and her determination to carry on, no matter what was nothing short of admirable. She faced her own challenges with dignity and resilience whilst showing enormous dedication and strength whilst caring for her beloved husband, Chris during his own diagnosis, struggle and then his loss just two years ago. For Jan to have suffered the same fate so soon after is nothing short of cruel and absolutely devastating not least for her many friends but particularly for her loving and beautiful family, who have also, only days before Jan's passing, suffered the loss of her dear, eldest brother, again to cancer. My heart goes out to Jan's three children and her family and I hope by completing this race, I can help just a little to know how valued and loved she was whilst uniting with others to help beat this terrible disease. Please join the fight by digging deep and sponsoring me - it's quick, easy and totally secure.
