Story

Hallo my friends and colleagues! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have set up this page as I have been selected to do Voluntary Service Overseas for 2 years. After a couple of false starts, a placement in Cape Coast, Ghana has now been confirmed and I will be on my way on 1st July. It is a placement based in the Local Metropolitan Assembly (like our local government) and the work is co-ordinating the disability organisations in the Central Region; identifying disabled people in the community; updating their strategies; and managing a caseload of disabled people. It is familiar ground for me, and has the potential for development so I feel comfortable with the placement.

Cape Coast is on the south coast of Ghana - about 70 miles from the capital Accra. It has the leading Ghana university in the town and used to be the British colonial centre when it was the Gold Coast. It is very close to the equator, so hot and humid!

One of the requirements for being a VSO volunteer is that I have to fundraise towards the cost of the placement. (The cost for sending a volunteer for 2 years is about £25,000). I set a target of £500 for this page and have already exceeded this amount. However, anything extra will be very welcome. I would be very grateful if you could consider making a contribution, however small, towards this target.

You can imagine that I`m feeling a mixture of excitement and trepidation with this new adventure – living in such a different culture - I`m sure that it will be life-changing. Please send positive vibes over the airways to help me in my preparations to go away!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

If you would prefer to make a payment over the telephone, you can contact the Justgiving helpdesk at any time between 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, on 0845 021 2110(local rate) or email help@justgiving.com

Thanks very much for your support.

Alison.
