Story
As most of you will know I have been working for LawWorks, a small independent charity, for over two years now. We try to provide free legal advice to those who have no other access to it, through a network of volunteer lawyers across England and Wales. Much of the work we do is in partnership with other advice agencies and organisations and this is how I came across the brilliant work done by Crisis. Crisis is the national charity for single homeless people. They are dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering life-changing services and campaigning for change - see http://www.crisis.org.uk/.
I decided that, in order to ask my lovely friends and family to part with hard-earned cash for Crisis, I needed to do something pretty special to justify it. So after a great deal of persuausion/nagging from one Miss Joanne Burr, I took a deep breath, and signed up for the London Marathon 2010.
Now my training is in full swing (23 miles at the weekend!) but I need to keep up with the fundraising! While walking to work last week I passed a number of very very cold homeless people, all in need of food and warmth. They'll be counting on Crisis to provide food, shelter and life-changing services - like housing and job advice - to help them find a route out of homelessness.
£25.64 could provide a place at a Crisis centre for one day, where a homeless person will get three meals, a bed if they need it, and the chance to leave homelessness behind for good.
