Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

A group of us are planning to get fit and raise money for charity at the same time. We will be doing a near half marathon walk in the Staffordshire Peak District taking in  the fantastic scenery of Lud's Church, Hen Cloud and the Roaches and covering a total ascent of nearly 800 metres.

We will be raising money for a fantastic charity - the  McMillan Cancer Support.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

We made it!!! Eleven enthusiastic people gathered in the car park at 10 am, rucksacks packed, boots polished, waterproofs at the ready. After a gentle stroll through the woods we had our first climb up to, and in some cases on top of, the Hanging Stone before dropping back down to go through Lud's Church and pausing to offer a prayer for the fantastic weather we had all day. More pleasant woodland walking and then the major climb up to the top of the Roaches with a welcome break for lunch half way.

After sauntering along on top of the rocks we dropped down for another all important stop at the tea shop. Refreshed, some brave souls tackled the flies and ascent of Hen Cloud before we started the plod back along the road to our starting point.

We finished in record time (since there is no previous time it had to be a record), providing the opportunity for yet another refreshment stop at the Ice Cream Farm prior to rounding off the day at the pub.

A great time was had by all, the aches and pains were minimal and the sunshine had to be seen to be believed (given it rained the day before and the day after). All in a good cause - and we are now planning the next even bigger walk
