Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon 2023 · 14 May 2023 ·

The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon will take place on Sunday 14 May 2023 and has been inspired by former Leeds Rhinos captain, Kevin Sinfield OBE, and his fundraising challenges in recent years in support of his friend and team mate Rob Burrow.

Story

Team Brigshaw

Rob Barker

My wife and I sat down to watch the documentary about Sir Kev running those incredible feats and we were so full of admiration and were inspired to do something to support. I thought maybe the 10km or the half marathon? Then in the documentary I saw Cath Muir, (the mum of some of my school friends who I played football with for years growing up) she has been battling MND since being diagnosed in 2014 and has been fundraising ever since. I knew then I had to push myself and complete my first ever marathon! It will be incredibly hard physically and even more difficult emotionally but I am really looking forward to the challenge! Good luck to everyone

This is my first ever marathon and it’s a challenge I have always wanted to do. Seeing Rob Burrow and his family pull together and keep going no matter what has inspired me to be a part of this years new Leeds marathon. I won’t be quick but I will get round thinking about those closest to me who are battling their own illnesses. The training is hard but I can’t wait for the challenge.

Mark Hudson

Despite being a veteran of over 50 Half Marathons, I only ever ran one full one. That was in New York in 2000 and I vowed never to do another one. How can you not be inspired and motivated by the Rob Burrow story? The Leeds Marathon is 8 days before my next 'big' birthday and I was determined to give it my best shot. Alas, the dreaded viral infection struck around Christmas and my training came to an abrupt end. I won't be on the start line on May 14th, but I will be on the course cheering on those taking part. I have a plan to complete the 26.2 miles in stages in the week leading up to the big day and I am SO proud of Ali, Rob and Steph.

Steph Hopkins

This is the first marathon for my husband and I. We both enjoy running, however never did I imagine I would sign up to do a marathon! When Mr Hudson came into the assesmbly and told us the challenge he was going to take on, he inspired me. The challenge that Rob Burrows has to go through each day is nothing to us running a marathon so why not do it, and do something great to raise money for MND. It is a challenge in itself finding the time to train, however I cannot wait to run this for Robbie and take part in the brilliant atmosphere and run with everyone on the 14th May.
