Story
Hope was born on 16th September 2008 and was a very healthy baby until she reached 4 months old and contracted a seemingly common respiratory virus. Following a 3 week stay in hospital we were told the virus had caused irreversible long term damage to her lungs and came home on long term oxygen therapy. The virus caused damage and thus narrowed and thickened her small airways, meaning oxygen could not pass freely. A few months later she was diagnosed as having Bronchiolitis Obliterans. Hope remained on 24/7 oxygen until summer 2010 and is now only on sleeptime oxygen. Apart from that Hope is a very cheeky and very active little girl. She is however one of the lucky ones as we have lost in excess of 10 kids over the last 2 years to this awful disease.
chILD Lung Foundation was formed when myself and another 2 mums met each other over the internet. Since then the charity has gone from strength to strength. We have made contact with almost 50 families over the UK and we are all a magnificent support for each other.
We are campaigning for for better care pathways, funding research, funding families for medical equipment, raising awareness and supporting families.
chILD is extremely rare and it is estimated there are only 100 kids in the UK suffering. Please help us reach out to these other families and gain more insight into this devastating disease.
