Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last year I was privileged to train for, and then run, the Berlin Marathon with a Royal Marine veteran who, in the war, lost his left foot after standing on a land mine. I’ve been supporting Help for Heroes in a very minor way since 2008 but after my humbling marathon experience, when I witnessed the courage and resilience - and the pain - required to run a marathon as an amputee, I decided that I wanted to do something more. I got my place in the Great North Run at the beginning of this year and as I run those 13.1 miles every step will be taken with Heroes in mind. When I hear the news about the tragic loss of those being killed in active service in I know many more will be suffering awful injuries which will have a devastating impact on them and their families. Help for Heroes, having seen a definite need for Recovery centres, are working hard to raise a further £20 million pounds to build 7 centres across the country. The centre has opened, and the Colchester centre is fast becoming a reality. HfH are finalising the design with the Army and hope to see it operational by the Autumn of 2010. As I now work for a based company, it seemed fitting to be helping to support these projects. Providing the funds keep coming, they hope to open further centres in rapid succession so please keep donating!Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
