Story
Imagine your child having to miss school half the week, in order to trek for hours just so he/she can bring back water for the family. Or a mother carrying her newborn having to do the same. No guarantee of safety during the journey. Nor whether the water is contaminated or not.
Yet this is the perilous journey countless people, particularly women and children, have to make on a regular basis. The children suffer more as they are denied the chance to get an education and escape the cycle of poverty.
But you can help change that: we're cycling from Edinburgh to London, fundraising to help build a solar-powered desalination plant in Kenya!
The project will have an incredible impact:
- Turning seawater into drinking water and converting the sun into solar energy to power the plant.
- Thousands of litres of seawater are cleaned and made fit for drinking, washing and irrigation.
- Roof-fitted solar panels mean it is fully run from renewable energy thereby having a zero-carbon footprint.
- This will also save litres of polluting diesel that would have been consumed by the water tankers making the journey to the village.
