Story
When I was 17, I became housebound and was diagnosed with M.E and Fibromyalgia. I felt isolated and alone, and there weren’t systems in place to support me. It took me six years to be able to exercise, nine years to be able to work full time… and even now, I have to pace myself to be able to do those things, and still experience pain and fatigue every day.
Last year, I was also diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia and FAI and, in February 2021, I had to have major hip surgery to ease some of my symptoms and repair the damage. Through an intense few months of physiotherapy, I’ve kept the At Home Superheroes challenge in mind. Leonard Cheshire is a brilliant charity that do so much for disability rights, promote inclusion and accessibility, and challenge discrimination. They work on a local, national and global level to drive change - and make the world a better place for disabled people! Disabled people have been disproportionately affected by Covid-19, so this fundraising is incredibly important.
I’ll be doing four 10km walks across the East Sussex coast - Bexhill, Eastbourne, Seaford and Brighton - between 17th July and 14th August. Please donate, share, and stay up to date - it would be amazing to see a few familiar faces cheering me on!
