Story

Okay - so let's hope 2021 is finally the year this Marathon will be completed in London on 3rd October 2021. Keeping everything crossed.

A good friend of mine Sophie, was diagnosed with one of the rarest forms of Epilepsy, Jeavons Syndrome at the age of 8 and has had to learn to live with the condition over the last 18 years. I took part in a charity walk with Soph for Young Epilepsy in October 2019 along the Jubilee Greenway and have found her story to be pretty remarkable. It is something which has inspired me to take on the London Marathon to raise awareness for Epilepsy in children and help grow the support system that Young Epilepsy provide for those who are diagnosed with the condition which is so often referred to as the Invisible Disability.

On average, 1 child in every primary school and 5 in every secondary school has Epilepsy. Children with Epilepsy are also 4 times more likely to suffer Mental Health-related illnesses than their friends.Young Epilepsy support 112,000 children under the age of 25, with epilepsy. They work to create better futures for these children, supporting their families and promoting epilepsy awareness across the UK.

Training has continued to stay at the same level as it was throughout 2020 with the guidance of my wonderful coach Ross. Luckily, injury-free now after the awful time in September. This year will be a good one - despite all that is going on, I am very excited to (and I will no matter what...) complete London; just 2 years later than expected! This is for Soph, who continues to inspire me on a daily basis whilst she lives on with Jeavons Syndrome (you are incredible).

As always any donation small or large will be hugely appreciated and will be going to an incredible cause. Thank you xxx

Young Epilepsy is dedicated to standing up for children and young people with epilepsy. We’re here for them. But we need your support because epilepsy is limiting the chances of thousands of children today and may continue to do so for the rest of their lives. Together we create possible.
