Story
Update: 3rd April 2016.
Recently, things have taken a bit of a turn. In a few weeks, my Mom will begin treatment again. Unfortunately it is something beyond our control. The cancer is now something that will never really go, so it's a matter of keeping things as good as possible for as long as possible. I am putting all my faith into the incredible people that work in the medical world and I'm grateful that such services are so easily accessible to us in this country. I feel driven to raise even more money so that, one day, cancer can be cured.
*UPDATE*
It seems like forever since I started this, so much has happened! I am delighted to say that my Mom started back at work today after being given the all clear a few weeks back. I'm so proud of her and so grateful for all of the wonderful support we've all had. Thank you to everybody who has donated so far. There's still plenty of time before race day so I'm determined to keep those donations coming!

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you will finish reading this with some perspective and help me raise money for a life saving cause.
In January 2015, my Mom was diagnosed with cancer. Without a blood test, this may have gone unnoticed and circumstances may not have been the same as they are today. The complicated location meant that immediate identification was difficult, though there was dispute as to whether it was Ovarian or Endometrial (more on this later). It was, however, known for a fact that it was this particular location. It took a great deal of scans and many weeks of waiting for us to know exactly what was going on because of other complications. This waiting time was unfortunately unavoidable. All staff that dealt with my Mom during this time were wonderful and I cannot praise them enough. It takes special people to make these times bearable for people in not only my Mom's position but my Dad's, also. He was made to feel confident and reassured under their care during appointments. This confidence has helped my Mom, I'm sure of it.
Since her diagnosis, my Mom has undergone 3 lots of Chemotherapy and surgery. It's been hard for her but she carries on and I'm so proud of her. Thankfully, the operation couldn't have gone better! The Surgeon was good enough to contact my Dad straight after the procedure and expressed how pleased he was with its success. I cannot praise this man enough.
Since the operation, tests have shown that the cancer originated in the ovaries. The early diagnosis of this has meant that treatment has been successful. Ovarian cancer is rarely diagnosed early due to the lack of symptoms it shows. It was thanks to a blood test that this was possible.
So, what does the future hold? Another 3 lots of Chemotherapy and then a further 5 years of close monitoring. Things are certainly proving positive to which I and the rest of my family could not be happier. There are still some tough times ahead but we are all in this together and we will see this through.
I would like to run the Race for Life to raise money for an organisation that has saved my Mom's life. Knowledge, research and understanding of a terrible illness has meant that my Mom is able to fight it. I'm proud of her every day and I know that in a couple of years time, this will all feel like a bad dream - but a bad dream that was conquered. I hope, if anything, this will make you realise that life should not be taken for granted. Anything could happen, so make it count. Thank you.
