Story
Thank you for taking the time to come and read our story.
We are inspired to run for RNIB to not only raise money for an amazing charity but to raise awareness for visual impairments.
We are so proud of Mia everyday! Despite the challenges she faces, she does not let it stop her. She is the most happiest little girl, she always makes everyone smile with laughter.
We are running for our daughter Mia, below is a brief summary of her condition.
Mia has been diagnosed with Nystagmus and Strabismus and possibly Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, I say possibly as the consultants have been very confused by Mia since we first took her at 4 months old. We have recently been referred to GOSH where we hope to get a confirmed diagnosis.
Mia is registered Severely Sight Impaired (Blind) this does not mean Mia can't see anything. We know Mia can see something or shadows, but we don't know how much she can or if any detail. Only time will tell when she is old enough to tell us.
Blindness is a spectrum and can vary depending on person and condition. Which is what we intend to help raise awareness about through Mia's journey.
Their is no cure for Optic Nerve Hypoplasia or Nystagmus, Mia has had surgery to correct her Strabismus but it does sometimes still turn in.
This is why RNIB is a charity close to our hearts and we look forward to supporting them in the run.
Every day, 250 people in the UK start losing their sight. Too many still face isolation and depression, unable to achieve their potential in a world that blocks their way. RNIB wont stop until every last psychological and physical barrier has gone for good. With your help, RNIB can be there when people need them most, support independent living, create an inclusive society and prevent avoidable sight loss. Every pound you donate is helping create a future where sight loss is no longer a barrier.
