Story
Hello! I'm dusting off my international marathon shoes and raising money for Prostate Cancer Research, a fantastic, yet under-funded charity that is pioneering research into treatments for prostate cancer and helping improve the quality of life for those living with the disease.
Prostate cancer accounts for 26% of male cancer diagnosis and is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK, yet prostate cancer receives only 8% of the funding spent on specific cancer sites.
My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and is now recovering well, thanks to his early diagnosis and the fantastic treatment he has received. As a wife, and mother to four boys, I want to support PCR in its research projects into treatments and its aim to reduce the number of people dying from the disease.
As well as wanting to reach the fundraising target set by PCR, I am hoping to finish the Amsterdam Marathon in a great time. Having not run a marathon since 2008 (the Florence Marathon, where I finished second place female in 2:35:25), I competed in the Manchester Marathon earlier this year, and finished in a time of 2:50:30. Not bad for an old dog! Of course, I now want to improve on that and hope to complete the Amsterdam Marathon in 2:45! That's quite a challenge and pressure I've put on myself and I need to up my training a bit over the next 8 weeks, but with your support, I think I can do it!
Thank you so much for any help you can give,
Alice x
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page! Prostate Cancer Research is dedicated to creating new prostate cancer treatments. Prostate cancer is now the most diagnosed cancer in the UK and 11,500 men die from the disease every year. People affected by prostate cancer need breakthrough treatments, and research is the only way to turn this hope into reality. Their vision is clear; a world where people are free from the impact of prostate cancer. I’m part of #TeamPCR because I share this vision. Will you help me support their research?
