Throughout the course of 2017 I am going to run 100k in races in aid of alzhimers UK.

I can't do much to help my grandma and this is my way of doing my bit, to help the charity continue to support the 850,000 suffers across the U.K. 

Every three minutes someone develops dementia and sadly, too many are still facing this cruel disease alone. 

Dementia can affect people in a variety of ways including memory loss, ability to think and problem solve, difficulty in following conversations and orientation problems (confusion between years, days or where they are). It can cause people to act differently too, such as being easily frustrated or withdrawn. Unfortunatley, this disease is set to be the 21st century's biggest killer but this charity is doing all that it can to not only support those with dementia but also their families as well as helping break down the stigma, raise awareness and fight for better care.

It is a huge financial burden and one of the charities focus' is improving care. My grandma fought all her life to keep her home and now has had to sell it to fund her care in a room that is too similar to the size of my university halls. The weekly cost is more than the average persons monthly rent and more needs to be done to provide more suitable, sustainable options
