Story
After 10 years of trying I finally got a ballot space for the London Marathon! This will be my first marathon, but ive wanted to do it since I was a little kid. The marathon will also round off my "year of endurance" after cycling from London to Paris in 24 hours last autumn and riding Lands End to John O'Groats this spring.
As a deployable MapAction volunteer I also thought it was a good chance to raise some money for them. MapAction is a fantastic charity that works to ensure humanitarian responders have access to the maps & data they need to save lives & relieve suffering.
This year alone MapAction has deployed to: Madagascar for the cyclones, Moldova, Poland and Romania for the Ukraine Crisis, The Gambia for flooding and Paraguay for droughts. MapAction has also supported remotely to Pakistan (flooding), Suriname (flooding), Afghanistan and Kenya (drought). This is on top of many preparedness and training missions to places including Burundi, South Sudan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and lots of other work done from the UK.
MapAction is made up of volunteers who give their time and expertise in order to help people affected by disasters. We deploy teams of mapping experts to the scene of a disaster to help ensure that the right aid gets to the right people, in the right place, at the right time.
