We organised Team Em And Me! because in April 2012 Alison's sister died suddenly in her sleep from a dramatic diabetic hypo. Although Emily had Type 1 Diabetes for ten years, it was never a concern that something like this could ever happen. Her death was a massive shock and it still continues to be.
Emily’s family, boyfriend, colleagues and friends are represented in Team Em And Me! however we are a fraction of the hundreds who attended her funeral testament to Emily’s lovely personality and the impact she had on people both personally and professionally as a Mental Health Social Worker. We ran the 2013 London Marathon for Emily since she would have had a deferred ballot place to run it in 2013 as her first marathon. Both Alison (2007) and Iain (2007 and 2010) had run London before and realised the brutal challenge that it is, in fact in 2007, Alison exclaimed she'd never run (or crawl) a marathon again!
It means a lot to us that the money will help others manage their condition but also that it can help fund research into ultimately finding a cure for Type 1. Thanks for taking the time to visit our page and for making a donation. We are determined to do a good job for Emily.
Alison and Iain xx
