Story
Hello!!!
Thanks for taking the time to visit our just giving page we really appreciate it!
So here's our challenge, Ash and I are going to be taking part in the Cheltenham Challenge 10k run to raise money for Spinal Muscular Atrophy Support UK and the Cotswold Care Trust (Ash is hosting the page for the Cotswold Care trust as we can't raise for two charities on the same page, a donation to either is really appreciated). We are hoping to raise a combined total of £400.
We have chosen to support the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Support UK as both my aunties suffer from the condition. Below is a little bit of information about SMA.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease that causes muscle weakness and progressive loss of movement. It occurs due to deteriorationt occurs due to deterioration in the nerve cells (motor neurones) connecting the brain and spinal cord to the body’s muscles.
As the link between the nerves and muscles breaks down, the muscles that are used for activities such as crawling, walking, sitting up, and moving the head become progressively weaker and shrink (atrophy). Mental abilities are unaffected by SMA.
There are a number of different conditions which are called SMA. The term is usually used for the most common form, which is caused by a genetic problem where one copy of the genetic error is inherited from each parent.
Thanks for your support!!
Ali and Ash
