Story
My friend Sally started a charity called CRIBS after volunteering in Greece and witnessing refugee parents having no option but tents or even just the streets after leaving hospital with their newborns. Thanks to CRIBS, so far 53 babies and their families have had a safe, warm, sanitary home with clean water for that precious first year of their lives.
I don't have children of my own, but am blessed with 4 niblings (the children of my siblings!) and couldn't stand the thought of my sisters not having a decent home in the days after they'd given birth.
In order to support CRIBS I'm going to volunteer for 15 days during October, in and around Glasgow. This will include formal volunteering roles such as at a food bank, and some days where i do litter picking for at least 2 hours. I hope to find a variety of organisations and areas to support during this time. It will be tough fitting this around my existing work as a nurse, and other life commitments. I hope you can help by suggesting volunteer opportunities, sharing this page, and please please by giving anything you can. No amount is too small. Every penny will help give a welcoming home to new babies and their families who otherwise face a dirty and dismal start to their life.
Please ensure you tick the gift aid box if you're eligible, as this doesn't cost you any more, but adds 25% to the value of your donation.
More about Sally's charity:
CRIBS International is a UK registered charity providing homes in Greece for pregnant refugee women and families with new babies.
These families have come from camps and squats where living conditions are squalid and desperate. They have fled from war zones, ISIS and the Taliban.
CRIBS rents, furnishes and pays the bills for apartments so that women and their families are able to have a place to call their own and a quiet space to recover, close to medical facilities.
Few things can restore dignity to a refugee family like the ability to close their own front door on a flat with walls, a ceiling, a private bathroom and kitchen.
More than just accommodation, CRIBS International provides a home where you can keep your family warm and safe.
