Story
I'm taking on The Shear Drop for Martlets and want to raise as much as I can for them. Can ewe help me reach my target and help Martlets to keep caring?
My story. For twelve years now I've been working as a peer support specialist at the Wellbeing hub at Preston Park, (part of UOK Brighton and Hove, a network of local services working together to support good mental health and wellbeing in Brighton and Hove). Its a mental health support hub for adults, and we are taking part in the Shaun the sheep sculpture trail this autumn and have been working really hard making crafts, doing sponsored walks, bake-offs, all to raise lots of money for the Martlets hospice. Quite a number of our clients have lost a family member who has received great kind palliative care in the Martlets, so it is a great local charity to support. Along the journey, having special events and targets has definitely helped give us a shared sense of purpose, teamwork and excitement too which is great for mental health. I haven't done abseiling since I was about 16 so thought this could be quite a big personal challenge for me too!!
Martlets Story: We are reminded every day that life is precious, and we understand how important it is to make special memories with those we care about. The Shear Drop will enable families and friends to enjoy precious time together and live life to the full; something we celebrate and encourage. It’s why, along with expert clinical care, Martlets provides wellbeing services, counselling, and rehabilitation. And why we deliver 80% of our care out in the community in people’s homes, helping patients and their loved ones stay together in familiar surroundings for as long as possible. As a local charity, our care is only free thanks to the support of local people, businesses and trusts. An NHS grant covers a portion of our costs, but we rely on our community, to fund most of our vital services.
