Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page...

Why am I running a marathon?

Since my childhood, I've always been passionate about sport. Running a marathon has appealed to me (in theory at least!) for a number of years and I can remember how proud I was to watch my Dad complete the inaugural Brighton Marathon in 2010; when he was narrowly edged out 2 hours behind eventual winner Bat-Ochiryn Ser-Od.

Since then, my desire to become the 3rd generation of Eagle marathon runners has outfought the little voice in my head that tells me it's a completely bonkers idea... Most of the time.

Why Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research?

When Jess (my loving girlfriend/handler of 3 years) told me in 2011 that her Nan had been diagnosed with leukaemia , I quickly saw how devastating blood cancer can be to both the sufferer and those close to them. Helpless to 'make everything better' as I wanted, I decided that running a marathon to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research was a great way to achieve a life goal while also doing what I could for a worthy and pertinent cause.

So far, it's proven to be a fantastic inspiration in dragging me through the gruelling final miles of my longer training runs; and I'm hoping it will prove to be a great opportunity to both give back for all the care Jo's received and to raise money to help others in similar situations.

What will your donation mean?

Besides improving your health and happiness (yes really! - click me), a donation from you can make a massive difference:

* £10 can help give patients access to clinical trials and new, life-saving treatments

* £20 can help researchers discover new treatments for myeloma, a blood cancer for which there is no permanent cure

* £25 can help researchers understand why a patient does not respond to the best available treatment and to develop new therapies

* £50 can help towards the use of stem cells in understanding the cause of blood cancer so that, for many people, it can be prevented altogether

* £50 could also support research into gene therapies that program patients' own immune systems to fight off cancer

* £100 can support a PhD student for one day to conduct vital research. Supporting PhD students ensures the future of cutting edge UK cancer research

* Any donation can make you a part of the extraordinary journey towards curing blood cancer
