Story
Alfie sustained a spinal cord injury, caused by an infant neuroblastoma, at a month old. This left him partially paralysed from the waist down.
Alfie was lucky enough to be referred to the Neurokinex Newly Injured Scheme in August 2017, where he had six sessions of rehabilitation funded by the Neurokinex Charitable Trust.
Alfie has been attending weekly rehabilitation with Neurokinex ever since and the progress he has made with them has been incredible. Amazingly he is still continuing to make progress nearly 5 years after his injury.
Sadly the Newly Injured Scheme, which costs £420 per person, is under threat as a loss of income during the COVID-19 pandemic means the Trust can't afford to fund the programme after lockdown. To try and save the scheme Neurokinex has launched its Step Up Appeal to raise £25,000 to safeguard these services for people who are waiting for their help. All funds that Alfie raises will go towards the appeal.
Alfie and his little brother Freddie will be pushing and running at least 20km over the next month. Their challenge will be interrupted in the middle of the month as Alfie will be having an operation on his feet, but the boys will be working hard to ensure they meet their goal on Alfie's 5th birthday in July. We'll be posting updates over the next month.
By raising £420, this would provide the six sessions for another person in Alfie's situation.
