Story
In April 2018 we take on our biggest challenge to date - save trying to find Tim a girlfriend or Alex trying to grow a beard. And it is all in aid of a magnificent cause.
The Marathon des Sables ("MDS") is a truly gruelling event. In just six days we will attempt to run over 250km (156 miles) through the Sahara Desert, self-sufficient, and carrying all our own food and equipment for the week on our backs..... all in temperatures of over 50 degrees centigrade.
If, like Alex's wife, Tom's girlfriend, and Tim's grandma, you're wondering why we are subjecting ourselves to cracked, swollen and bleeding feet, dehydration and chaffing....then rest assured it is all in aid of raising much needed funds for a fantastic charity: the NSPCC.
The NSPCC believes that every childhood is worth fighting for, and so do we. Together we can play our part to help prevent child abuse and ensure that all children grow up healthy and thrive. All the money we raise will go direct to the NSPCC and the following lists what your money could do:
- £5 could pay to answer one NSPCC Helpline call;
- £25 could pay for a trained practitioner to spend an hour with a family supporting parents to care for their children;
- £500 could pay for running the NSPCC helpline for one hour;
- £1,600 could pay to recruit, train and support a new Childline volunteer;
- £30,000 could pay to run Childline for one day.
Please take the time to read more about this fantastic charity; it is amazing to see the difference they make: NSPCC - What We Do
Training has begun in earnest, albeit on three different continents; with Tom in the USA, Tim in the Middle East, and Alex sobbing quietly in London. During our training we will also complete a number of different challenges.....so watch this space.
