Story
🌟 Anthony Nolan Fundraising Christmas Light🌟
My dad started doing these lights when Alex was diagnosed with Leukaemia (ALL) at age 4. Dad used them as a way of cheering Alex up when he was ill from all his chemotherapy & really poorly.
Alex went on to be in remission for around 4 years before relapsing at the age of 11 - just after starting secondary school.
The cancer came back stronger than before, and at the age of 11 Alex was given a 4% chance of survival. At this point his only hope was a bone marrow transplant, something notoriously difficult for people of ethnic minorities due to the lack of donors from those communities. However, luck was on our side and Anthony Nolan, saving the lives of people with blood cancer, were able to find a match extremely quickly!
Alex went on to have his radiotherapy and then his bone marrow transplant whilst at Great Ormond Street hospital and thank god everything went well!
Alex still has life long side affects that he will have to deal with for the rest of his life, but he’s here and with us and that’s all that matters ♥️
My Dad vowed after the transplant that he would use the lights as a way of raising money for Anthony Nolan charity each year , and all he hopes is that they bring a bit of joy to people who might be going through a hard time and bring a bit of a smile ♥️
I think given this years current situation as well they’re even more poignant !
If you have some spare pennies , no matter how big or small , they would be greatly appreciated 😘 Without this Charity my brother wouldn’t be with us and would have missed out on the last 13 years of memories that we’ve had as a family ♥️
Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day.
