Story
On July 7th 2020, 8 years to the day after my mum died of cancer, my twin brother Matthew was admitted to hospital for surgery to remove a brain tumour. The surgery was successful, but the cancer is high grade. He now needs radiotherapy and chemotherapy to prolong his lifetime and to keep the tumour under control.
This is the second time he has had a brain tumour. Matthew had his first tumour when he was just 3 years old in 2006. This tumour was removed completely and treated with 30 sessions of radiotherapy. He is now 17 and having to face the same battle again.
Both me and Matthew are runners. As he can't run at the moment I have decided to take up the challenge of running 5k everyday, every week he is having radiotherapy. 5k is the perfect distance for this as it takes, for me, roughly the same amount of time it takes for a session of radiotherapy to be finished (20-30 minutes).
Brain tumour research is a charity close to our hearts as they look to find the cure for brain tumours, stopping the suffering that many children and adults have endured. I would love for you to donate to a worthwhile cause, to support Matthew and to support thousands of other people in his position.
