Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was personally touched by a story of young 15 year old boy called Sam White. He was recently chosen to be an Olympic torch bearer and this was his nomination story. I have a young child myself and the thought of them ever being afflicted by such a devastating illness scares me to death. I recently lost my father to cancer who was in his 60's but for someone so young to ever be affected is just devastating.
Two years ago Sam White collapsed. A tumour imploded causing massive pressure in his brain. Sam was given an hour to live without treatment and follow on treatment was only given because he tried to communicate and move. He was left unable to see, speak, walk, move his arm and had massive memory loss. Sam has had to relearn EVERYTHING. Sam has had to live with the effects of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and brain damage. Sam has always been passionate about sport and been determined to succeed and not allow his medical problems stop him enjoying sport. Sam returned to school after his ordeal demonstrating continuing commitment to sport by doing his young leader award and volunteering many hours at community events. Sam was awarded The Grove School 'Inspiration Award'. Sam's work has also spread to the wider community; he has raised money, lobbied MP's, raised awareness of brain tumours and their symptoms nationally, visited the NUT London for workshops with teachers. Sam is a superb role model who has battled against the odds always trying to improve things for others and working hard to combat his fears/anxiety. He smiles on his bad days, forgives those who forget his daily struggle and bravely faces up to the fact that he is different from two years ago and 'getting on with it'.
I met and spoke with Sam and he told me how much help and support he got from the Childrens Brain Tumour Research Centre this is the charity he has chosen to support and I am asking for everyone to dig deep and help.
