Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
When Outlander actor Sam Heughan launched My Peak Challenge earlier this year, encouraging people to do something that would be a REAL challenge in 2016 (& raise funds for Bloodwise), I signed up. Why? Because I'm 60 this year and thought it was time I tried to get even fitter by attempting a 5k run, something that really isn't me at all. I also wanted to help speed up research into blood cancers.
Why is this important to me? In 2007 my lovely husband John was diagnosed with multiple myeloma - a nasty, incurable but treatable (to a point) blood cancer . Since then, he's been through some tough times including having a stem cell transplant and he sees his consultant every 5 weeks, all the while taking a cycle of chemo-type medication. In 2010 the consultants decided he also had myelodysplasia - another incurable blood cancer - two seems just a tad unfair!
So whilst it's actually before the main Peak Challenge month (May) I have registered for the Windsor 5k Colour Vibe race on Easter Day. Provided that doesn't kill me, I will also participate in the Overton Recreation Centre Fun Run on 21st May - so another opportunity to sponsor me (double the donation if I manage both might be an idea!)
I do hope you can encourage me to do this by making a donation here - it will be for a fantastic cause - Bloodwise are doing a lot of great things to help improve outcomes for all blood cancer patients.
