Story
Hiya everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page!
I am hugely honoured to have been selected to partake in Warwick in Africa 2022, which is a programme enabling student placements in schools around Africa. I, alongside 5 other student volunteers, will be spending six weeks teaching Maths and English to disadvantaged children in a school located in the impoverished Limpopo province of South Africa.
These children are confronted with significant difficulties on a daily basis and are not acquiring basic literacy and numeracy skills, due to a lack of relevant curriculum and limited access to knowledge. This is where Warwick in Africa enacts change by providing support to teachers in partner schools to enhance children's experience from which they can build a positive and fulfilling future. Since 2006, a whopping 605,000 learners have benefited from this programme, raising English test result averages from 44% to 66% and maths results from 35% to 55%. Our role as volunteers will be to help teachers increase their confidence in teaching, alongside working with them to develop creative and inspiring lessons for the students.
In supporting the programme's efforts I will be fundraising £1000, which will directly benefit the children in our partner school. More details to follow on my social media pages (Facebook: Alexandra Georgiou, Instagram: alexx_georgiou & warwickinlimpopo_2022).
Putting your donation into perspective: £10 would be sufficient to teach a child for one month = potentially changing a child's life and giving them previously inaccessible opportunities.
Thank you for supporting me in making a meaningful difference! Your donation will be greatly appreciated not only by me, but by all the South African children benefiting from your kind deed!
