To say that Ovarian Cancer Action is a charity that is close to my heart, is such an understatement. I lost my wonderful mum 20 years ago to this cruel disease. I miss her every day; even more so since becoming a mum myself and knowing how much she would have loved her grandsons and they her; and how much I would have loved to share them with her.

Ovarian cancer took away my mum, and many others, far too soon. It has left me with a constant dread that one day, I too will apologise to my children that we didn't have more time together, just as my mum did when we realised that she would not win her battle. I can only imagine now, as a mum myself, how heartbreaking that conversation was for her.

However, the loss of my mum has also made me resilient and fiercely determined. And to that end, although I'm not an athlete by design, I'm hoping that by running the Virgin London Marathon for Ovarian Cancer Action, we can contribute to battling ovarian cancer: by raising awareness and funding research, so that it does not claim more dear mothers, daughters, sisters and friends as its victims.
