Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Myself, Christie and Georgie met through our love of outdoor fitness and we have decided to put our fitness to the test by taking part in Total Warrior to raise money for St Gemma’s Hospice.

Hospices up and down the country do amazing things to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of adults, children and young people who have a terminal illness.

Both myself and Christie have had direct personal experience of the amazing work Hospices have done for our family members.

Before 2015, I hadnt stepped foot in a hospice but the years following this have been the hardest years of my life in losing my wonderful parents and a very close friend. I will be forever grateful for the amazing care and support the Hospice provided.

St Gemma’s Hospice is our local Leeds-based charity providing expert care and support for local people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses.

St Gemma’s is the largest hospice in Yorkshire and one of the largest in the UK, providing inpatient care and outpatient care. St Gemma’s Hospice also has an academic unit of palliative care in conjunction with  the University of Leeds, carrying out internationally recognised research into palliative care and providing training to  Health Professionals across the city.

All this amazing work requires ongoing funding. Hospices rely heavily on fundraising so they can keep supporting as many people and their families as possible.

The running costs of St Gemma’s Hospice are forecast to be around £11 million over the next financial year. This year, 28% of St Gemma’s running costs will be given by the NHS. This means that 72% of their funds need to be raised from fundraising activity and donations.

Please please please dig deep for St Gemma’s Hospice  as we will be digging our way through an extremely muddy 12k route obstacle course, physically and mentally pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones wading through mounds of mud, plunging in ice cold waters, jumping over fire, crawling through barbed wire and electric fences and much more!!!
