Story
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorder that affects the brain and nervous system.
In June 2020 my step-dad was diagnosed with Sporadic CJD and died just weeks later. We, as a family, had to witness the most traumatic and rapid decline in his previously good health. The road from first symptoms to diagnosis was a terrifying whirlwind for all of us. Rob’s memory and mobility deteriorated and caring for him was challenging as his needs would change dramatically from one day to the next. The care and support we received was invaluable. The CJD Support Network is the only UK charity dedicated to the disease. They are there to ensure that appropriate practical and emotional support is available for all strains of CJD in the UK.
