On August 1st 2014 Shona had a motorbike accident on her way to the Yorkshire Pud event, on her way their a car did a u-turn out of a lay-by without checking first causing shona to crash into the side of him.

Shona was in critical condition, no one thought she was going to survive but the YAA (Yorkshire Air Ambulance) managed to get her to the trauma centre at the northern general in a matter of minutes. Because of how fast they were, the work they did with shona while she was in the ambulance and the work of the trauma staff at the hospital my sister is still here today. I cant begin to explain what it's like to see a loved one like that. Shona had that many life threatening injuries no one thought she was going to survive, we didnt know if she was. Me, my mum and my step dad were allowed to go see shona just before she went into the surgery where doctors were going to try and save shona but couldn't tell us if they thought it would work, all we knew was this was shona's last chance.

Shona had internal bleeding in several places, a book fracture to the pelvis (broken at the front and back), both wrists broken, a damaged spine, broken ribs and her jaw and face was broken in several places. But somehow, somehow she managed to get through all of it! Even the doctors were amazed at how well shona was and still is recovering. Ever since the accident Shona has made it her mission to help raise money for the YAA and now I'm making it mine too! 

The YAA run purely on donations and it costs them £9900 A DAY to operate. Our aim is only £175 but the more we get the better. But if as many people tried this campaign as possible then I'm sure we could easily reach that amount!

This time it was my sister, someone so close to home they saved. I want to make sure that next time it's someone's sister, brother, dad, mum, child, whoever is close to them, that they survive because of the amazing work that The Yorkshire Air Ambulance do every day!
